Merrimac operates a Special Education Program and currently supports students with a range of disabilities including:

  • Intellectual impairment
  • Speech and language impairment
  • Autistic spectrum disorder
  • Physical impairment
  • Hearing impairment
  • Speech impairment

A number of students with specialised health needs are also supported.

The support program operates out of 'HQ' (headquarters) which is equipped with kitchenette, computers, quiet areas and specialised teaching resources.

The program is coordinated by a Head of Inclusive Learning with support from Inclusion teachers and Inclusion teaching assistants.

Although a purpose facility is available for student access, the school maintains an inclusive approach where students are supported within regular classrooms and only accessing HQ for specialised programs.
