Our school Chaplaincy is a valued part of the Merrimac State School community and a trusted presence within the life of the school. Employed through SU Australia, Chaplains provide social, emotional and pastoral support to students, staff, and families. School Chaplains are available to everyone, but are particularly invested in supporting individuals and groups who may be considered at-risk. Through early intervention activities and pastoral support, school chaplains increase the chances of these young people experiencing better life outcomes.
Through Merrimac State School's Chaplaincy service, we're able to enhance Merrimac's overall culture, empowering students to practice empathy, gratitude, and resilience. This pastoral-care centred approach to education is central to Merrimac's school culture, developing students' potential and preparing them for future endeavours.
Merrimac's Chaplain is involved in providing the following:
- One on one student support and strength-based mentoring.
- Running social, emotional small groups for at-risk students.
- Breaky Fit (Breakfast Club).
- Supporting staff wellbeing.
- Lunchtime inclusion initiatives.
- Coordinate prayer group for staff and parents.
- Connecting families to churches and other local organisations for support and assistance.

Breakfast Fitness
Breakfast Fitness (Breaky Fit) is a weekly before-school wellbeing club, facilitated by our school Chaplain and dedicated teachers. Open to students in Grades 1–6, Breaky Fit promotes resilience, respect, and teamwork through energetic games of dodgeball.
At Merrimac, we value inclusivity—so rather than being “out” when the ball is caught, students stay active by doing star jumps or sit-ups, ensuring everyone stays engaged and involved.
After dodgeball, students enjoy a nutritious morning snack, including pancakes, orange juice, and fresh fruit, before heading off to class refreshed and ready for the day.
A heartfelt thank you to Coles Worongary, Genesis Church, NewLife Robina Children's Leaders, Merrimac’s P&C, and our incredible Merrimac Teachers for your ongoing support and dedication in making Breaky Fit possible each week.
