Established in 1917, Merrimac State School has a proud history of serving the local community for over a century. What began as a small one-teacher school set in a quiet rural setting has grown into a vibrant, modern learning environment. In those early days, students would ride their horses to and from school, tethering them in a paddock during the school day.
As the surrounding community has grown and changed, so too has Merrimac State School. The once-rural campus is now home to a range of contemporary buildings and facilities, supporting a dynamic and engaging learning experience for students. Fittingly, the original horse paddock has been transformed into a large multipurpose centre, symbolising the school’s development while honouring its roots.
Despite these changes, Merrimac State School continues to cherish its environmental heritage. The school features a nature trail and places strong emphasis on the preservation and appreciation of native plants, trees, and local fauna. These natural elements are carefully maintained, offering students opportunities to learn about sustainability, biodiversity, and the importance of caring for the environment.
