Dear Parents and Care Givers
Yesterday the Queensland Government announced that an additional five (5) Student Free Days will be in place next week, from Monday 30 March to Friday 3 April inclusive. This means that while our school will remain open, the Term 1 break will start early for students and they will not attend school next week, unless they are children of ‘essential’ workers or ‘vulnerable’ children. Essential workers are those that must currently continue to attend their workplace during this difficult time. Our school has been asked to provide supervision for children of these workers if they attend our school next week.
Children who come to school next week may not be in their usual classroom and may be taught by a different class teacher during the week. It is expected that we may have only one class per year level depending on the numbers of children in attendance. However, the normal school day routine and supervised learning will be provided to the children in attendance.
The Student Free Days have been provided by the Government to allow teachers the opportunity to plan for continuity of student learning in the event that the education sector needs to move to flexible and remote learning at the commencement of Term 2.State schools will be formally closed for the Term 1 break from the end of Friday, 3 April. Staff will return to work on Monday 20 April unless health advice determines otherwise. For children at home, learning materials will be available on the Department of Education’s new learning@home website (qld.gov.au/learningathome). This website has downloadable learning materials, tips for parents and links to other well-regarded, free education websites that parents and caregivers and their children can use.
Our school has also sent home links to online learning programs to support the departmental online resources. There has been an issue with some of our students not knowing their relevant passwords. These will be resent to parents hopefully today or on Monday. Also from next week booklets will be available for those families who for any reason cannot access online work or do not have a computer available for their children.
This is certainly a challenging and complex time for all members of our school community. I thank you for your ongoing support during these difficult times. I will continue to keep our school community updated with the latest information especially in these ever changing times. Please ensure that the school has your current email address.
